1988年。心臓医見習いのダニーは婚約者が自分を愛していないと知り、挙式の直前に結婚をやめる。そんなダニーは不幸な既婚者がもてると悟り、そう嘘をつくナンパを繰り返すように。そして現在、美容整形外科医に転身して成功したダニーだが、23歳の魅力的な女性パーマーと出会い、職場の同僚キャサリンに離婚寸前の妻になりすますよう頼むが、嘘をつき続けるうち、キャサリンの子どもたちまで自分の子どもと偽る事態になる。
