根据德国作家Rolf Hochhuth舞台剧《The Deputy》改编，党卫军上尉Kurt Gerstein发现自己为净化水源而合成的化学药剂成为杀人毒气时深感震惊，想要把这种罪行告上中立国或教廷。天主教神父Riccardo是惟一愿意帮助他的人。然而两人的力量不但未能阻止悲剧的发生，还成为了历史车轮下的牺牲品。
